BJP posts big win in Arunachal local body polls     Back
(14:42, 22 Dec 2025)
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party registered a sweeping victory in local body elections in Arunachal Pradesh. The party secured a dominant majority across Zilla Parishads, Gram Panchayats and the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, winning 14 of the 20 IMC wards.

As per final results, the BJP won 170 of 245 Zilla Parishad seats and 6,085 of 8,208 Gram Panchayat seats, many of them uncontested. The regional People’s Party of Arunachal emerged a distant second.

The Congress failed to win a single seat in the IMC and Pasighat Municipal Council elections. However, it won 216 Gram Panchayat seats, including 111 uncontested, while the Nationalist Congress Party secured 396 seats, with 159 uncontested victories.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked voters for the decisive mandate and said the results reflected strong support for the party’s governance and grassroots organisation.
